This is the building of the ANZ Bank in Bundall on the Gold Coast in Queensland. I had just finished work at the Gold Coast City Council when I walked out and was greeted by this view.

This is the AAMI Stadium in Melbourne, quite a unique structure, and rather striking with the background of dark clouds. Here is a picture of the same structure at night photographed from the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower.

Magnificent Melbourne! Part One: A View At Night

This is the magnificent view that greeted me when I stepped out onto my hotel room balcony on the ninth floor of the Medina Hotel in Melbourne. It was a clear night with a cold that penetrates to your bones as only Melbourne can do. This didn't seem to deter the rower on the Yarra river. But then again, I'd rather be him than be stuck in the traffic on the road next to him.

This is the impressive MCG - the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Interestingly enough the peak traffic flowed into the city rather than out.

Some things in life are still free

I saw these two very friendly chaps on my way back to the office. I wondered whether it was some social experiment, just for fun or a cunning way to get to hug all those sexy Brisbane girls. Either way they seemed to enjoy themselves.

Amazing Magic!

I just love the expression on that little girl's face. She is mesmerised by the performance and the performer. I took this picture while walking  back to the office in Brisbane yesterday afternoon. This magician is a regular performer here in the Queen Street Mall, and is a true entertainer.

Day Fading

The last few rays of the setting sun caught the Story Bridge and the cliffs at Kangaroo Point yesterday afternoon as I was walking towards the train station to go home.

View from the Taxi

It was an icy cold, rainy and windy afternoon in Melbourne. I was in the back seat of a taxi on my way to what I thought would be certain death. It almost was, but I lived to tell the tale. Brisbane Darter

As I was walking along Kangaroo Point I spotted this Darter on one of the piers. I edged closer and closer and could see how he became more uneasy as I approached him slowly. Eventually his nerves could not take it any longer and he few off, providing me with a few nice shots of this interesting bird.

Brisbane Skyline at Dusk

This is the view of the Brisbane CBD as you walk upstream along the river next to Kangaroo Point. There are lovely paths to walk along and separate paths for the many bike riders who opt for the greener alternative for getting to and from work. It was a lovely cool evening.

Under the Bridge

I took a different route to another train station last night and passed under the Pacific Motorway going over the Brisbane river, where I took this interesting shot.

Warming Cold Blood

I saw this little guy trying to warm himself in the winter sun on the cliff face at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane. He eyed me cautiously for quite some time before thinking the better of it and scurrying away into a crack.

Balloons in Brisbane

There weren't 99 and they weren't red, but they did bring some nice colour to Queen Street in Brisbane.

Music on a Brisbane Street

Street musicians are a fairly common sight on the streets of the Brisbane CBD. I saw this guy on the corner of Queen Street and Edward Street, entertaining the public with his mellow tunes. 

Brisbane is Better

The Worker Bee

Welcome, little swallow

This is the beautiful Welcome Swallow, a small bird native to Australia and the surrounding islands. As I was walking along the Brisbane River I saw many of these swallows flying about catching insects, their metallic blue backs glistening in the sunlight. Getting a photo proved rather difficult though as they are extremely fast and agile little birds. On the way back to the office I boarded a CityCat ferry and one of these birds came and perched on a pole right in front of me. I snapped away eagerly and got this nice shot showing their beautiful colours.

Web of Golden Threads

This "little" spider kept me entertained for quite some time. He (or she??) was happily feasting on a bug when I came along. I was intrigued by the colour of the web, a deep and bright gold. I'm not sure what spider this is, I assume it's part of the Orbital Weaver family. If you know drop me a comment.

Another example of the stunning colours that Nature puts on display for us to enjoy.

Window to the Sky

I took this picture shortly after boarding the CityCat ferry at New Farm in Brisbane. The sun is blocked out by one of the poles of the pier - I thought it made a rather nice abstract photo.

Catch Of The Day

I took my usual lunch time walk today, this time taking the CityCat ferry to Mobray Park, then walked along the river towards Norman Park where I got the ferry to New Farm, and then back to the city. On the way I saw a White-breasted Sea Eagle flying upstream, but a bit far for a good photo. Not long afterwards the same eagle returned, this time carrying what looked like a catfish in it's talons, no doubt soon to become lunch.

According to Wikipedia, the female is slightly larger than the male and can have a wingspan of up to 2.2 m (7 ft).

Natural Oxenford

My son and I went for a 10 minute drive through the back roads of Oxenford this afternoon where we also went for a short walk. Here are some of the pictures I took.

Spring vs. Concrete

Even in a bustling city Nature's beauty is on display. This is a little peach tree in the full bloom of Spring, with the Brisbane Citigate Hotel in the background.

Nectar Seeker

The first signs that Spring is upon us! The flowers are blooming and the bees are taking full advantage. I was walking along Albert street in Brisbane when I saw a peach tree, beautifully backlit by the afternoon sun with bees buzzing around. I was lucky to capture the shadow of this little fellow through a flower petal just before he flew off to the next flower.

New Home for Lady Justice

This is a different view of a shiny new building in Brisbane - the Brisbane Supreme and District Court. The builders are now putting on the finishing touches to the building and completing the landscaping. As I walked past I looked up at the sun which was just peeking past. I thought it made a rather nice abstract picture.

As I was walking in Wickham Park I saw a beautiful young lady relaxing in the warm afternoon sun. I later learned that her name is Amy, and she kindly agreed that I can post her picture on my blog.

Brisbane Going Home

This picture was taken from the Kurilpa pedestrian bridge looking South towards the Victoria Bridge. It was just after 5pm and judging by the number of cars and buses, time to go home. Click on the image to view a larger version.
