Vibrant Chinatown

This is a picture I took in Chinatown in Sydney just before entering my hotel room.

Sunset Over Darling Harbour

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to do some work for Lend Lease in Sydney. As the day was drawing to a close I heard someone mention what a stunning sunset there was, and when I looked up I was greeted by the most spectacular colours of gold and yellow and blue. I ran up to the highest floor and took this picture from the office window.

Crime Riddled Streets

Some interesting graffiti on the way to Burwood in Sydney. Ironic that the graffiti itself is considered a crime, but not in the eyes of those who commit it. As I mentioned in my Urban Art post, I'm not totally against graffiti. Depending on the location and whether it's done well, I consider it more of an art form than a crime, and why not decorate the bland train tracks with some colour?

Mustard Seed

This is the Mustard Seed Uniting Church in Sydney, with beautiful Christmas decorations on a cool evening.

Celebration

I had a lovely dinner with two dear friends in Sydney. As we walked out the restaurant we were greeted by fireworks celebrating the lighting of the Christmas tree in Martin Place.

Ominous Warning

I snapped this interesting warning through a dirty train window on my way to the office in Sydney the other morning. I wanted to get a better shot a week later when I was there again, but the wall was repainted since.

Curiosity

I was walking in Burwood when I came across this gorgeous dog. So friendly and curious, with the tail wagging continuously and a frown that made everyone smile. The sounds my camera made were particularly interesting to her.

Bright Autumn Morning

People and cars were rushing past me when I took this photo one morning in Sydney on my way to work. I think very few noticed the lovely autumn colours highlighted by the glow of the morning sun.

Flying High in NSW

I took this picture while on my lunch break in Sydney a few months ago. It was about 1pm in the afternoon with bright blue skies, but for effect I edited the colour of this picture a little to make it warmer, giving the effect of the late afternoon. I stood in the middle of the Sydney Harbour Bridge looking up at the bridge climbers with the New South Wales State Flag in the background. 

The flag was flown at half-mast on that day as a mark of mourning and respect for the State Funeral of the Hon. Francis (Frank) John Walker QC. Mr Walker was a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1988 and the Federal Member for Robertson from 1990 to 1996, holding Ministerial positions in both the NSW and Commonwealth Governments. He was president of the Schizophrenia Fellowship from 1998 until his passing. *

Remnants of Autumn

I passed this lovely building on my way to the Lend Lease office while in Sydney. It is the St Phillip's York Street Anglican Cathedral. We were pretty much into the Winter season, but a few brave Autumn leaves still hung in there, glowing in the morning sunlight.

Spectacular Sydney! Part Seven: A Night to Remember

I took these two pictures of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on a Sunday night that I arrived in Sydney before a week of consulting work was due to start. It was a cold night with low clouds promising rain. I took these pictures with my back to the Opera House (pictures of that to follow soon). I couldn't quite decide which of these two pictures to post on my blog, so I decided to post both.

Tonight as I sit here and look at these two pictures I couldn't help but think of my eldest sister who I haven't seen for almost 5 years. I have countless fond memories of times long past. Times when we laughed together, and other times when I laughed and she was angry because I would tease and irritate her to no end. I don't know if one would normally dedicate a blog entry to someone, but since this is my blog I guess I can do what I want. So this blog entry is dedicated to my beautiful and loving sister, Renée. I miss you.

Photographing the photographer

Two photographers took a moment to take a photo the other night. The one photographer took a picture of the Vivid display in the Sydney harbour, while the other took a picture of the photographer that took the picture of the Vivid display. The background is the magnificent Sydney Opera House.

Sleepy City

These three pictures were taken while I was at the Olympic Park in Sydney. This first one was taken at about 10:30pm. The moon was full and bright causing some weird lens flare, but I think it makes an interesting photo.

This second picture was an early morning shot taken about an hour before sunrise. I'm not generally a morning person, but wanted to catch the sunrise. Unfortunately I got my timing a little wrong and ended up strolling through the darkness for about 90 minutes before the sun eventually decided it was time to rise.

When the sun finally did come up, the horison was fairly cloudy and overcast, making for a rather dramatic photo.

The next photos that I'll post should contain a little more sunlight :)
