I won't get too philosophical on this one like on my previous post - this is simply some nice reflections that I saw while trying to keep the camera dry and my head above water on the aptly named Creek street in Brisbane...

Gloomy Monday

The weather today reminded me of a lovely song by Sinead O' Connor called Gloomy Sunday, except that it was Monday and I was on my way to the office in Brisbane. While waiting for a bus I looked up to the opposite building and saw this warm, cozy room contrasting nicely with the gloomy grey on the street.

Scrimshaw

This is the Scrimshaw vessel basking in the golden rays of the late afternoon sun. It was moored in the Brisbane River alongside the mangrove trees next to the Queensland University of Technology, and I stood on the opposite side of the river at Southbank. I just love the atmosphere that the golden rays give this picture.

I think all people experience the simple joy of interesting art and colourful lights, but children have a way of freely showing what adults hide behind their inhibitions. Simply having fun and enjoying something cool! :)

The Brisbane Festival of Light - I took these pictures on the second last night of the display. Of course the pictures will never do justice to the sound and light display. They are a little blurred as they were taken hand-held, but you get the idea.

Reporting The Case

This is the Channel 10 News reporter outside the Commonwealth Law Courts in Brisbane. She was reporting on the high profile case of the four daughters caught in an international custody dispute. Shortly after they were sent back to their father in Italy.

Formidable Tiger

This is the Eurocopter Tiger, a combat helicopter in use with the Australian Army. I took this one from the Kurilpa bridge in Brisbane as it was practicing manoeuvres for the Brisbane Riverfire display.

Brisbane Jacarandas

Not quite on the scale of the Jacarandas in Pretoria, South Africa, but Brisbane also has many Jacarandas that are also very beautiful and impressive. October is the time to see these trees in full bloom, like these two on the shores of the Brisbane river.

The Cathedral

Some time back I posted pictures taken inside the St John's Cathedral in Brisbane, this is the same cathedral viewed from Queen street.

Vivid Colours of the Brisbane Skyline

This is my third attempt at the Brisbane skyline from Kangaroo point, and I think the best one so far. I set the ISO level to 200, resulting in the shutter staying open for much longer, which had the effect of smoothing out the water and capturing brighter colours.

Defiant Hope

Nature is simply amazing - not only will it always try to survive, but in some cases it will thrive against all odds. I spotted these two trees in Brisbane, growing on the side of a wall about two stories high.

The same wall also hosted some ferns.

Peaceful on the River

This picture was taken from my company's office on the 19th floor of the Riverside Centre, with the afternoon sun reflected off the nearby buildings and forming playful patterns in the river.

Aerosolgrafia

This is Aerosolgrafia, or more commonly known as Spray Paint Art. I was walking along the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane the other day and came across Aaron Killbey while he was demonstrating his impressive skills in creating stunning art using spray paint, paper and some common plastic objects. He does this for a living, together with his brother Alex, who is in Melbourne. Visit their Facebook page where you can see more of their stunning art.
