As you know by now I appreciate a beautiful flower, so I couldn't pass by these roses in Burwood Park this afternoon without taking pictures of them.

Gripen over African Skies

This is the Swedish built Saab JAS 39 Gripen (Eng: Griffen). These three pictures are paintings done by my dad Charl Mӧller, depicting some of the aircraft purchased by the South African Air Force. They are on my list of favorite fighter jets, painted by my favorite artist.

A Red Poppy for the Lady in Red

Red poppies were sold again today as part of Remembrance Day that is to be held on the 11th of November. World War I ended on this day in 1918 and every year across Australia people observe a minute silence to remember the more than 60 000 Australian men and women who died as a result of the war. It also goes beyond World War I and serves to remind us of all the Australians who served in other wars, past and present.

Red poppies have become synonymous with, and a symbol of the Returned & Services League (RSL). It was inspired by the red poppies in the fields of Flanders, as written about by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae in his poem, In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw

Beauty Amoungst The Reeds

This is another stunning photo taken by Sam van Niekerk while in the Okavango. This is a Malachite Kingfisher, to me one of the most beautiful birds in Africa.

Festival of Light

The Brisbane Festival of Light - I took these pictures on the second last night of the display. Of course the pictures will never do justice to the sound and light display. They are a little blurred as they were taken hand-held, but you get the idea.

Bright Autumn Morning

People and cars were rushing past me when I took this photo one morning in Sydney on my way to work. I think very few noticed the lovely autumn colours highlighted by the glow of the morning sun.
